A look of fear came to Paige’s face; her skin turning a pasty white as beads of perspiration broke out on her brow. She stared blankly at her reflection in the bedroom mirror, only it wasn’t truly her. She stared in the in the darkest of black, obsidian maybe, eyes that that held no gentle emotion like her own softly blue. The features were tense, as if she were in a great amount of pain and trying to hide it.
Paige
raised her hand slowly, hesitating for only a fleeting second before her
fingertips pressed lightly against the cool, smooth surface of the glass. Her
reflection raised her own hand as well and pressed her fingers against her own
until their hands were flat. Paige felt a tingling in her palm as the mirror
suddenly rippled, their fingers lacing together. Her reflection’s hand was as
cold as ice. She wanted to pull away, to turn around and run, but those eyes
compelled her to look into them as soft whispered echoed in her ears, words she
could not comprehend.
Nonchalantly,
the darker her began to move forward, her face still a mask of emotions. She
stepped out, stopped in front of Paige, releasing her hand as her own arm fell
back to her side.
“Who…who
are you?” Paige asked, still unable to move or tear her gaze from the other
girls.
She
said nothing, only watched Paige with those eerie, expressionless eyes.
“Do
you have a name?”
Still
nothing.
Paige
bit the inside of her cheek as she lifted a hand to again touch the one that
looked so much like her. She felt so real, but yet, she felt like a corpse,
frozen.
Still
those black eyes watched her.
A
knock sounded on her door. “Paige?”
Spinning
on her heel, she opened her mouth to speak, but before she could get out a
work, her mother opened the door and stepped inside.
“Paige,
have you seen my necklace? The silver one with the ruby pendent?”
“No,
did you look in the desk drawer upstairs in your office?” Didn’t she see her?
‘Hmmm, no, must have crossed my mind.” She walks out, closing the door behind her, but opened it a crack again to look at Paige; “Dinner will be ready in a few minutes.”
“Thanks
mom.”
Her
mother smiled then closed the door softly behind her.
Paige
sighed relief then turned her attention back to the girl. She still stood
there, but she was not smiling. It wasn’t a soft, gently smile, but a cruel,
sadistic smile. Paige slowly began to back up, but the girl suddenly jumped at
her. Paige flinched, but felt nothing strike or hit her. Opening her eyes, she
looked around. Everything was normal, nothing out of place and there was no
sign of the girl. Looking back to the mirror, her relief was short lived as she
saw the girl, looking at her through the glass with a grin.
Paige
made her way toward her, now angry. “What do you plan to gain by-“ she was cut
off as she ran into some invisible wall. “What…no! Oh no! What have you done!?”
The
girl said nothing, only smiled and turned away, walking toward the door. She
opened it and slipped through, closing the door with a click that echoed in her
mind.
“No!
Let me out!” Paige slammed her fists against the unseen barrier. Tears began to
spill from her eyes as she continued to scream.
Finally,
she gave up. Looking around, everything was the same, her room, her posters,
everything was in place.
The
door behind her opened.
Turning
her red brimmed eyes toward the door, Paige waited, anticipating what would
come through.
It was her mother and around her
neck was the silver necklace with the ruby rose pendent.
“Mom?”
She looked up at Paige; her
eyes those same cruel black holes just like that girl’s. She grinned and bared
her teeth, raising her clawed hands.
“Oh
God…” Paige backed against the barrier, turning around as she tried to claw her
way out, but it was to no avail. The woman beast slashed, her claws slicing
open Paige’s clothing as well as her flesh, blood spraying across the walls and
running down her body, dripping and pouring to the floor. She screamed in
agonized pain until everything went black.
