Eternal Suffering
I stared deep into the two
pools of crystal water that I knew as eyes. I felt my body tremble deep within.
He smiled deeply, showing me a perfect line of teeth and how white they were.
My heart swelled and I slipped my arms beneath his jacket, clasping my hands at
his back. I tilted my head back and looked directly in his eyes, still yet to
memorize every speck of light, or color in them. Unclasping my hands at his
back, I raised one and gently caressed his familiar cheek. His skin was unbelievably
soft, except where the stubble of the beard started. I smiled at the prickly
feeling, loving it completely. My finger traced a line across his cheek,
following onto his lips. I knew every curve, crevice and line in this face. He
placed a light butterfly kiss on my finger. A smile erupted from my face,
feeling joy and happiness spread throughout my body. Finally he lowered his
head and gently brushed his lips against mine. At last he claimed my mouth
fully. I heard a groan escape my throat. Our tongue’s swirled in a majestic
dance that was confined to our mouths. A gentle moan filled my ears. I was not
completely sure who it had come from. Slowly his hands inched up my sides, but
at this point I did not care. His fingers fumbled with my blouse buttons.
Finally I grabbed his hands with only one of my, stilling their movement. I
pushed his hands away carefully, then stripped myself
completely in front of him. His eyes widened as my clothes melted away,
noticing that I wore no underwear.
Suddenly something in his
eyes hardened and with a single rough shove, I was thrown back into a wall. The
room seemed to almost shake, as my head collided with the nearest wall. I slid
down it, having no control over my body as it all turned to jelly. My eyelids
drooped, causing the room to turn black. I watched Kevin stalk towards me. He
buried his hand into my hair, bunched a handful and yanked me to my feet. I
yelped in extreme pain feeling fireworks explode in my head.
His free hand clasped my
face, pushing my cheeks together. I felt them begin to bruise. I expected to
hear him talk but not a word was said. Instead he only shoved me into the wall
once more.
Somehow I managed to remain
on my feet. Somewhere in my mind I acknowledged an opening door. The room
seemed to be blurred. Objects were running into others, nothing was
distinctive. I saw a pair of feet walk towards me but stop when they reached
Kevin.
Cautiously I shook my head
a little, trying to clear it. Everything seemed to tip a little to one side.
“If we want to be together,
you need to kill her now!” A familiar voice said. The words had not registered
in my mind, only the voice.
“Kim?” I breathed out. Kim
was my best friend. A single light shone through my mind, known as hope.
She walked closer towards
me.
“Kill her Kevin. Then we
can be together!”
This time every single
syllable clicked in my mind. It literally amazed me how I continued to stand.
My knees shook and my legs wobbled. My body was quaking all over.
I heard a loud clicking
noise, almost the same as someone opening a can of pop. Slowly I leveled my
eyes with Kevin’s, finally understanding that he held a gun. His eyes were sad,
almost as if he were rethinking it all.
Kim spun around in her
heel. “Shoot her Kevin!” He straightened his arm, applying a little pressure to
the trigger.
She turned to face me, her
hands clasped at her chest. She gave a sadistic giggle. My eyes flew back to
Kevin’s.
His mouth formed the words
‘I’m sorry’, then the gun exploded. The force knocked me off my feet, although
I still leaned against the wall. My hands covered the wound in my chest. Blood
seeped through my hands and spilled out onto my body. It dripped onto the floor
slowly. My body felt on fire, burning from my head to the tips of my
fingertips, all the way to the tips of my toes. The shivers ran through me,
causing my body and soul to shake uncontrollably. I gasped in horror, feeling
blood expand in my lungs. Sluggishly my body leaned to the side and I hit the
floor. Pain coursed through my body. Blood dripped on the floor from my mouth
and chest. I gently closed my eyes, wishing the pain would come to an end. I
started to feel weak, from the loss of blood that poured from me. A fuzzy
feeling grew in my stomach and overtook my body. Finally I drew in my last
breath, and felt no more pain.
***
My eyes flashed open,
pupils wide. I stared at the wall for what seemed minutes. However, not once
did I breathe. I had expected my chest to heave and gasp for air but it hadn’t
moved. I slowly began to shuffle to my knees. I gazed down seeing where the
bullet had pierced through. The blood had dried around the wound and some that
had dripped down my chest. There was no pain anymore. I forced myself to blink,
noticing I did not actually have to.
I rose up to my feet and
carefully straightened every muscle and tissue. It felt absolutely wonderful. I
took a limber step towards my clothes and quickly threw them on. My eyes
wandered the room, coming to a rest on the exit door. A smell entered my nose.
It was sort of musky and had a hint of spice to it. Kevin’s cologne, I
realized. I inhaled it deeply, memorizing it so I would know it when I found it
again.
I threw open the door and
headed out into the hallway. I had only a vague idea on where I would find
them.
My movements were stiff and
heavy. I no longer was normal. I knew I was the walking dead. Here only to get
my revenge.
***
I stared up at the pale
yellow house that stood before me. The door was slightly ajar and I could hear
movement in the upper level. With my arms hanging straight down at my sides, I
walked to the door and hauled it off the hinges. With only one arm, I threw the
door across the yard with a loud clatter. All movement stopped above. I stepped
within and slowly began to gaze around, taking in every detail of the room. The
forest green curtains which contrasted with the red walls. Their lamp sat
beside the couch. Birdcages hung from the ceiling. They began to chirp loudly.
I stalked towards them and tore open the cage. In one smooth moment, I had bit
off one of the heads. Immediately they all went silent. Footsteps scurried on
the floor above. I turned towards the doorway and headed back, running smack
into Kevin’s chest. It was bare at the moment and I could smell her saliva all
over him. He jumped back, eyes wide and his face drained of any color.
“Holy
Shit!”
He yelled.
I didn’t say a single word.
I stared him in the eye, not blinking, not breathing.
“Thank god you are alive! I
am so sorry about earlier!”
My gaze did not waiver and
I continued to stare at him. He started to get fidgety. His fingers twitched at
his sides and his breathing sped up.
“Christine?” He called my
name. I did not respond. I simply memorized his face once more; to remember who
it was that betrayed me for all eternity. As I was sure he would remember me.
I raised my arm, completely
straight, elbow not bending, and grasped the back of his head. I pulled it
roughly towards me. Our lips met and at first he struggled but eventually he
sunk in. I watched his eyes open, then widen. He grabbed
my shoulders with his hands and tried to shove me away. I was as still as a
statue and he only managed to push himself away.
He cried out in alarm and
disgust. His shaky hands reached up and pulled my detached lips off his. My
skin clung to his. Wherever he had touched me, my skin had peeled off. He
stared at my face, where my muscles were exposed.
“Oh god!” he muttered. Kim
had run down the stairs then stopping at the sight of me.
“Christine?” she too stared
at my face. She eyes shot to Kevin’s face, staring at the excess skin on it. I
approached Kevin and forcefully shoved him into the wall, like he did me. His
head ricocheted off the wall. His eyes rolled up into the back of his head and
he slumped over.
Kim backed up slowly,
heading for the staircase. I walked towards her, still not blinking and not
breathing.
I raised my arm rapidly and
clutched a fistful of hair, yanking her close. She yelped in pain just as I had
done. Her face was right in mine and I could see the struggle within not to
look at my skinless parts.
Finally bending my elbow, I
raised my second hand to her face. I brushed it gently across her cheek. The
sickening sound of ripping flesh made Kim start to gag as my fingers skin hung
to her. My nails were long and sharp. I stared as they gleamed in the sunlight
that poured through the doorway.
Then I slashed once, on her
face. Her blood sprayed on Kevin and the walls. Her flesh dangled from my
fingernail.
In a single, swift
movement, I tore the hair from her head that I had a grasp on.
Her screams were like music
to my ears. It was so high pitched and glass shattering. It caused Kevin’s eyes
to flutter open. He glanced at Kim, then sucked in a breath and pushed himself
more against the wall.
My head turned from him
back to her. I tilted her head back and watched her swallow. My fingernails
encircled her Adams Apple. Without another thought I forced them into her
throat and ripped out her voice box. No scream was heard. Her eyes merely
glazed over and she fell to her knees. Blood poured from her throat in a steady
smooth motion. Finally she fell onto her back and I proclaimed her dead.
Kevin pushed himself to his
feet, keeping his eyes locked with mine. I took a single step and seized at his
shoulder.
He cried out in pain as
blood shot from underneath my nails. I twisted his shoulder slowly, beginning
to feel it separate from the body. Blood cascaded down the side of his shirt.
Using my second hand, I
plunged it deep into his stomach. His mouth and eyes widened in pain. I
extracted my hand, pulling out a handful of intestines. It continued to leak
out. I watched as his skin began to disincarnate from the acid within. It began
to eat anything that was in its path.
He too collapsed to his
knees, except that he fell on his stomach, hiding the slimy mess. I knew he was
dead.
As I turned to leave the
house I gawked as my arm fell to the ground and exploded into dust.
A pressure built within me.
I opened my mouth to scream but no sound came out.
Finally my body imploded.
Dust flew everywhere. I was now passing on. I had received my just revenge. My
complete suffering had ended along with the lives of my best friend, boyfriend
and regrettably enough, mine.
